A chess riddle.
Black gives a double check.
White replies by giving mate without capturing anything
How is this possible?
(I think I know how, but I may be wrong)
White also checkmates with a double check.
I think not. White can only mate by moving the king, right?
White after double check (taking a pawn on the passage) responds with a battery checkmate.
Yes This of one of three ways.
And the last one I discovered.
It is also possible with double checks from black N+B or N+R
The correct quiz should probably be this:
Black gives a double check from bishop and rook
White replies with mate without capturing anything
How?
A more complex chess riddle. 😎
Can the queen be sacrificed in three or all four corners of the board?
How is this possible?
(I think I know how, but I may be wrong).
On 3 consecutive moves?
I think the task is to sacrifice the same queen without captures in 3 corners and win. All the sacrifices should be in one line, other white moves may be between sacrifices. This looks possible to me.
On 3 consecutive moves, it probably won’t work. But on different moves it might. It is important that queen’s sacrifices in the corner must be without captures.
Rook is easier. I managed to sacrifice it in all corners.
Solved by a FIDE Master.
On consecutive moves?
No. In 4 moves. After two quiet Q-sacrifices White sacrifices his Rook and then the 3rd Q-sacrifice with check.
Made another one with the black king in the center. Each move is a check. The first one with quiet sacrifices and the black king in the corner was more difficult. I’ll give the both versions in the evening.
Impossible. The both checking pieces have to be pinned.
This is possible only with R+P double check. In this case only R has to be pinned.
Damn so there is a fourth case of rook and pawn.
But rook + bishop is still possible 🙂
3 white pieces attack the black king: Qg8 Rh4 and Bf1 attack Kc4.
Between them and the king we have the white king and two black pieces: Ke2 Re6 Bg4(Nf4). Do you see the last black move? I don’t. This is an illegal position.
What if told you that Black’s double check was made by a bishop and rook that were on say e3 and c3?
Shockingly simple. Only after having seen the example, of course!

How to avoid the capture of the pawn by the king in the last diagram?

En-passant capture can introduce a double check with R+B but this is not possible for R+N and B+N. Right?
I think so. But with R+N and B+N, no enpassant is needed.
Look at this, for instance.

Two positions with 3 sacrifices of one queen in 3 corners.
