There is a bit of annoying analytic by-play in the introduction—both sides have a lots of options and the consequences are difficult to oversee. For example, in the line 2. Kd3? Rxd8 3. Kc4 Black needs to find the precise moves 3. …Re6! 4. b7 Rxf6 5. Kb5 Rf4!. While the first of them is obvious, the second isn’t. Or in the same line, after 4. Nd5 Re4+ 5. Kb5 Rxd5 6. b7 Black has to play 6… Re8! instead of the more intuitive 6… Rd8 (so much the more as 6… Rd8 7. c6 loses). What happens here does not seem to follow a simple logic and so these lines dilute the clarity of the main line a bit.
However, the incarceration of the black rook followed by the Nc6 sacrifice and Kd5 and b5 is brilliant! (I did not check for anticipations.) Let’s see whether the judge agrees. 🙂
These lines are not annoying. Black does here the same thing he does in the main line – he stops the pawns with his rooks. There are two ways to do it: 1) double the rooks on the 4th rank – that’s why 5…Rf4 is an easy move, and 2) bring his king closer to the pawns after 6…Re8 (instead of Rd8 – this rook pins the pawn).
Serhiy, when I read such comments, I really ask myself why you are not an OTB grandmaster.
When I show my studies to other players—after I have convinced myself that some choices should be “easy”—typically they tell me that they are not easy or obvious at all.
Looking at the lines with the engine on makes us believe too fast that things are easy, could not be different, and so on. I make the same mistake frequently.
They usually mate me in the opening, so I can’t use my calculation skills in the endgame 🙂
When I evaluate studies I don’t care if grandmasters struggle to find the solution. When the lines are easy to understand for me, they are easy. Here they are easy.

Speaking of studies and openings, Yosha Iglesias just showed me this opening line (which was new to me at least)
With a foreplan, White gets rid of pawn e5 to play 12. Qe2 and pin Black’s queen on e4. Unfortunately 8. Kd3 wins as well, but fun anyway.
